ContourGlobal, a KKR Company, has marked a significant milestone by commencing operations at its Black Hollow Sun I (BHS I) project in Colorado. The 185 MWp solar photovoltaic facility, located near the Town of Severance, began delivering electricity to the Platte River Power Authority, marking ContourGlobal's first operating renewable plant in the United States [1].
The BHS I project is the initial phase of the larger Black Hollow Sun complex, which will also include the second phase, BHS II, with a capacity of 139 MWp. When fully completed by the end of 2026, the complex will reach a total capacity of 324 MWp, making it Northern Colorado's largest solar project and Platte River's largest contracted solar asset [1].
The project is expected to produce around 608 GWh of clean energy annually, enough to power more than 73,000 homes in Northern Colorado while avoiding nearly 450,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions each year [1]. The construction of BHS I created approximately 450 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy [1].
KKR & Co. Inc., the parent company of ContourGlobal, is a financial services group with two primary areas of activity: insurance and asset management. In 2023, KKR & Co. Inc. had USD 552,801 million in assets under management, reflecting its extensive investment portfolio across various sectors, including real estate, energy, and infrastructure [2, 3].
