Congressman Bill Huizenga, chair of the House Financial Services Oversight Subcommittee, declared that digital assets are "the future" during a pivotal hearing on
policy. The hearing, titled “American Innovation and the Future of Digital Assets: From Blueprint to a Functional Framework,” focused on the development of a regulatory framework for digital assets. Huizenga, who has been involved in crypto-related issues for over a decade, emphasized the importance of the United States getting its regulatory policies in order to keep up with the rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.Huizenga's comments come at a critical time, as he is expected to run for Michigan’s open Senate seat in 2026. This potential run sets the stage for a high-stakes battle within the Republican Party, as fellow pro-crypto contender Mike
is also expected to campaign for the same seat. Both Huizenga and Rogers have a strong track record of supporting crypto-friendly legislation, which could make the race a significant test for the crypto industry's influence in U.S. politics.Huizenga has co-sponsored several pieces of digital asset legislation, including the FIT21 and the CLARITY Act of 2025. These bills aim to provide clarity and regulatory certainty for the digital asset industry. His pro-crypto stance has earned him support from crypto donors and advocacy groups, who see him as a champion for the industry's interests. However, his potential Senate run could face opposition from Trump supporters, who are backing Rogers for the seat.
Rogers, who also has a pro-crypto track record, has received an A rating from the digital asset advocacy organization Stand With Crypto. In a recent op-ed, Rogers emphasized the importance of ensuring that crypto, the next generation of internet information and value flow, is imbued with American values. He also highlighted the connection between national security and the strength of the U.S. economy, stressing the importance of the dollar maintaining its primacy as the global reserve currency.
The hearing brought together several crypto-oriented witnesses, including former SEC commissioner Elad Roisman, Etheralize founder Vivek Raman, Uniswap Labs Chief Legal Officer Katherine Minarik, and former CFTC chairman Rostin Benham and Timothy Massad. The witnesses provided insights into the current state of the digital asset industry and the challenges it faces in terms of regulation and adoption. The hearing also highlighted the need for a comprehensive regulatory framework that can foster innovation while protecting investors and consumers.
Huizenga's comments and the hearing's focus on digital asset policy underscore the growing importance of crypto in the U.S. political landscape. As more lawmakers recognize the potential of digital assets, the industry is likely to see increased regulatory clarity and support. However, the upcoming Senate race in Michigan could also highlight the divisions within the Republican Party over crypto policy, as Huizenga and Rogers vie for the same seat. Regardless of the outcome, the race is likely to be a significant test for the crypto industry's influence in U.S. politics.
