Comcast Spinoff Versant Expands with Free TV Network Acquisition

Comcast's spinoff company, Versant Media Group, is acquiring Free TV Networks and Indy Cinema to diversify its business. Free TV Networks operates ad-supported channels such as Outlaw and Busted, while Indy Cinema provides software to independent movie theaters. Versant will roll Indy Cinema into its Fandango ticketing service. Comcast plans to distribute Versant shares to its stockholders after January 2. The moves aim to focus Comcast on its NBC broadcast channel and Peacock online service.
