Toronto city council has voted to create a "chief resiliency officer" to help the city deal with extreme weather situations. The city will also review its heat relief strategy and consider restoring cooling centres for unhoused people. The council has also directed city staff to identify funds to distribute at least 500,000 bottles of water in 2025 and work with the Canadian Red Cross to develop a pilot program to support vulnerable populations during extreme weather events.
