Coinbase Rebrands Wallet App as Base, Adds Pay Feature

Coinbase Global Inc. has announced a significant rebranding of one of its core applications, as the leading US digital asset platform aims to integrate various functionalities into a single, comprehensive app for its users. The Coinbase Wallet app will now be known as the Base App, according to a statement released by the company on Wednesday. This move comes as Coinbase continues to expand the capabilities and importance of its Base blockchain, which was launched approximately two years ago. The Base blockchain has not only generated substantial revenue but has also become a pivotal component of Coinbase's payments strategy.

Jesse Pollack, who has been instrumental in the development of Base, joined Coinbase's executive team last year and was appointed to lead the Coinbase Wallet. This strategic appointment underscores the company's commitment to enhancing the user experience and consolidating its offerings.

Coinbase's initiative to create an "everything app" aligns with a broader industry trend where companies across various sectors are striving to provide all-in-one solutions. These apps are designed to retain customers by offering a wide range of services within a single platform, reducing the need for users to switch between different applications.

The Base App introduces several new features aimed at streamlining user interactions. One of the key additions is Base Pay, an express checkout option that allows users to pay quickly and securely. Similar to PayPal, Base Pay will store users' personal information, including their name, shipping address, and email, enabling them to complete transactions in seconds on supported apps and websites, such as Shopify. Additionally, the Base App includes a "Sign in with Base" feature, which allows users to carry their credentials across various online applications, facilitating quick and convenient sign-ins.
