Coinbase Expands Derivatives: Solana, Hedera Futures Coming Soon

Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has submitted an application to regulators to launch futures contracts for Solana (SOL) and Hedera (HBAR) on its derivatives trading platform. According to the application, the SOL standard contract size is 100 SOL, approximately $24,000, with a mini contract size of 5 SOL. The HBAR contract size is set at 5,000 tokens. These contracts will be settled in cash on a monthly basis and cleared by Nodal Clear, LLC, a CFTC-registered derivatives clearing organization.

The launch of these futures contracts is expected to occur after February 2025, pending regulatory approval. This move by Coinbase is seen as a strategic step to expand its derivatives offerings and cater to the growing demand for cryptocurrency derivatives products. The integration of the Farcaster protocol on this platform is also expected to enhance user experience and facilitate seamless trading.
