Club Med names Carrefour Brazil executive Maquaire as CEO

Club Med, the French tourism group, has appointed Stéphane Maquaire as its new CEO, replacing Henri Giscard d’Estaing who has led the company since 2002. Maquaire, 51, previously served as the boss of Monoprix and headed Carrefour’s South American unit before resigning from the latter position [1].

Giscard d’Estaing, 68, announced his departure in a handwritten letter to employees, stating that Fosun, the main shareholder of Club Med, had decided to appoint a new president. Fosun, a Chinese group, has disputed Giscard d’Estaing’s version of events [1].

Maquaire’s appointment comes amidst ongoing succession discussions and a potential listing of Club Med on the Paris Stock Exchange. Giscard d’Estaing had been advocating for the listing, which he believes would provide better international governance and respect for the company’s French roots [1].

Club Med operates approximately 60 all-inclusive resorts worldwide, generating $2 billion in sales last year. Giscard d’Estaing led the brand’s shift towards a more upscale market during his tenure [1].
