Citizens Financial Names Aunoy Banerjee as New CFO

Banerjee, a 25-year veteran in the financial services industry, will succeed John Woods, who will depart on August 15, 2025. Chris Emerson, EVP and Head of Corporate Planning & Enterprise Finance, will serve as interim CFO until Banerjee's arrival. Banerjee's responsibilities will include Financial Planning and Analysis, Business Line Finance Groups, Controller, Investor Relations, Treasury, Tax, and Capital Management functions, as well as Property & Procurement [1].
Prior to joining Barclays, Banerjee held senior finance roles at State Street and Citigroup. He has extensive experience leading finance functions at large financial institutions and overseeing complex transformation and optimization programs. At Barclays, he leads a global team supporting multiple lines of business, including U.S. Consumer, Global Corporate and Investment Banking, and Private Bank and Wealth Management [1].
Citizens Financial Group is one of the nation's oldest and largest financial institutions, with $218.3 billion in assets as of June 30, 2025. The appointment of Banerjee coincides with the bank's ongoing retooling of its business strategy, including the launch of a private bank and a new plan called "Reimagining the Bank" that targets AI-related efficiencies and employee upskilling [2].
