The partnership began in 2006 with the introduction of the Citi SMRT Credit Card, which integrated transit fare payments with credit card benefits. Over the past two decades, the card has evolved to become a staple in Singaporeans' wallets, offering generous cashback on transport, groceries, and online shopping [2]. The card has also seen a significant increase in digital wallet transactions, reflecting a shift towards digital payments [2].
Ngien Hoon Ping, Group CEO of SMRT Corporation, highlighted the shared vision of transforming commutes into a vibrant lifestyle. He stated, "Together, SMRT and Citi have introduced a unique credit card that enables seamless rides and fuss-free online shopping, making travel part of a rewarding daily experience" [2].
Yeo Wenxian, CEO of Citibank Singapore, emphasized Citi's commitment to bringing value to commuters. He noted, "This partnership is driven by Citi's strong commitment to Singapore, to bring value to commuters and cardmembers here in their daily life" [2].
The renewal of the partnership also includes new benefits for consumers. New Citi Cardmembers can receive a limited-time offer of upsized S$400 cashback with S$800 qualifying spend in the first two months. Additionally, cardmembers will enjoy 5% savings on Malaysian Ringgit spend from September 1, 2025, until February 28, 2026. Furthermore, cardmembers can look forward to 20-cent treats from popular F&B brands for four weeks starting September 19 [2].
Citigroup offers a range of banking, investment, and wealth management services globally. The company's latest initiative involves partnering with BlackRock to manage approximately $80 billion in assets, further enhancing its wealth management offerings [3]. This collaboration aims to provide clients with access to customized portfolio solutions, advanced risk management, and improved investment outcomes.
