Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries are expanding their joint development efforts to accelerate the introduction of more efficient and powerful chip technologies. They are advancing the development of next-generation BCD process technology, which combines different functions on a single chip, and collaborating on Gallium Nitride technology for consumer and industrial applications. The expanded collaboration is expected to support Cirrus Logic's commitment to delivering cutting-edge mixed-signal products and strengthen the resilience and geographic diversity of its customers' semiconductor supply chains.
Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries have expanded their strategic partnership to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation chip technologies. The collaboration, announced on August 19, 2025, aims to introduce more efficient and powerful chip solutions for various industries, including smartphones and automobiles.
The partnership focuses on two key technologies: next-generation BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process technology and Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology. The BCD process technology allows for the combination of different functions on a single chip, enhancing power efficiency and compactness. This technology will be manufactured at GlobalFoundries' facility in Malta, New York, adding a U.S.-based option to complement existing manufacturing in Singapore and Germany [2].
The companies are also collaborating on GaN technology, which offers high-power density and the ability to handle high voltages. This technology is being developed at GlobalFoundries' facility in Essex Junction, Vermont, and is expected to expand Cirrus Logic's mixed-signal and power technology portfolio [2].
John Forsyth, President and CEO of Cirrus Logic, expressed excitement about the deepened partnership, stating, "This collaboration expands the technology leadership of both companies, strengthens the U.S. semiconductor supply chain, and reinforces our shared commitment to innovation and customer success" [2].
Tim Breen, CEO of GlobalFoundries, echoed these sentiments, noting the importance of resilient, geographically diverse supply chains for the industry. "Together, we’re enabling the next generation of essential chip technologies that will power tomorrow’s devices and systems," he said [2].
The expanded partnership is expected to support Cirrus Logic's commitment to delivering cutting-edge mixed-signal products and strengthen the resilience and geographic diversity of its customers' semiconductor supply chains [2].
