China parade: unveils nuclear missiles with global reach in parade - Xinhua

China is set to showcase its military prowess in an upcoming parade scheduled for September 3 in Beijing. The parade, which commemorates the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, will feature a range of advanced weapon systems, including the DF-41 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) [1].

The DF-41, designed by the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF), is one of the most advanced systems in China’s arsenal. With a range of up to 15,000 kilometers and the capability to carry multiple nuclear warheads, the DF-41 signals Beijing’s growing global reach. The missile is a solid-fueled, three-stage system with an estimated launch weight of 80,000 kilograms and a length of 20-22 meters [1].

The parade will also highlight China’s emphasis on developing hypersonic anti-ship missiles, drones, and advanced armored vehicles. These technologies are part of China’s strategy to counter US dominance in the Pacific and prepare for technologically advanced conflicts [1].

The DF-41 is not the only missile system expected to be showcased. China is also set to display its DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM), which has a range of up to 1,000 kilometers, and the DF-31A ICBM, with a range of up to 11,000 kilometers [1].

The parade will serve as a demonstration of China’s military modernization and an opportunity to pitch its advanced weaponry to international partners. The event follows a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to meet with other world leaders [1].

In addition to the military parade, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is also signaling his evolving nuclear capabilities ahead of a trip to China. Kim visited several weapons and missile facilities, including a research institute behind the development of new ICBMs [2].

The upcoming parade in Beijing and Kim Jong-un’s visit to China highlight the ongoing nuclear and military developments in the region. These events underscore the geopolitical tensions and the need for strategic responses from the international community.
