China's market watchdog vows to closely monitor delivery sector
Title: China's Market Watchdog Vows to Closely Monitor Delivery Sector
The Chinese market watchdog has expressed a commitment to closely monitor the delivery sector, following recent developments in the industry. This move comes in response to the strategic partnership between Turkish logistics company Horoz Lojistik and Chinese online marketplace Temu, which aims to provide fast and secure delivery services for high-volume products sold by Temu in the local Turkish market [3].
According to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), August NEV (New Energy Vehicle) retail sales rebounded above 1 million units, marking a significant recovery after falling below this threshold in July. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales maintained growth, rising by 17.2 percent year-on-year and accounting for 62.3 percent of total NEV retail sales in August [1].
However, hybrid vehicle sales experienced a decline, falling by 6.8 percent year-on-year. This marks the second consecutive month of year-on-year decline in hybrid vehicle retail sales. The NEV retail penetration rate in August reached 55.2 percent, up 1.5 percentage points from the same period last year. Domestic brands achieved a 76 percent NEV retail penetration rate, while luxury brands reached 31.9 percent and mainstream joint-venture brands recorded 6.6 percent [1].
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has also been active in the sector, with Chinese-owned online marketplace Temu agreeing to pay $2 million to settle the FTC's first-ever enforcement action under the 2022 INFORM Consumers Act [2]. This settlement highlights the regulatory scrutiny that the delivery sector is currently under.
The market watchdog's decision to closely monitor the delivery sector is likely driven by the need to ensure consumer protection and maintain market integrity. The strategic partnership between Horoz Lojistik and Temu underscores the growing importance of efficient and reliable delivery services in the e-commerce sector.
