China Demands US Lift Tariffs, Calls for Equal Dialogue

In a recent press conference, the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Gao Feng, addressed the U.S. claim of a "tariff thaw." Gao Feng emphasized that the U.S. imposition of tariffs is not in line with basic economic principles and market rules. He noted that these tariffs not only fail to address domestic issues in the U.S. but also disrupt the international economic and trade order. This disruption hinders the normal operations of enterprises and affects the daily lives and consumption of people. The spokesperson highlighted that these measures have faced strong opposition both internationally and within the U.S.
Gao Feng stated that the U.S. initiated the unilateral tariff measures and, therefore, should be the one to lift them. He suggested that if the U.S. genuinely wants to resolve the issues, it should heed the rational voices of the international community and domestic stakeholders. The spokesperson called for the complete removal of all unilateral tariff measures against China and advocated for resolving differences through equal dialogue.
This statement underscores China's firm stance on the tariff issue, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and equal dialogue in resolving trade disputes. The Ministry of Commerce's position reflects a broader sentiment within China that the U.S. should take responsibility for its unilateral actions and work towards a more balanced and cooperative trade relationship.
