Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, Andrew Wong, today attended the donation ceremony of the Wongtee Charitable Foundation and Sun Hung Kai Properties in support of Hong Kong's artificial intelligence development. He expressed his pleasure in being present at today's ceremony, witnessing the donation of HK$200 million by the Wongtee Charitable Foundation and Sun Hung Kai Properties to the Hong Kong Generative AI Research Centre (HKGAI) under the InnoHK Innovation Hong Kong R&D Platform. Hong Kong must seize the opportunity to lead the innovation wave driven by artificial intelligence. In fact, Hong Kong has unique advantages in this field, such as strong research and development capabilities, with the data science and artificial intelligence disciplines of three local universities ranked among the top 25 in the world; in addition, Hong Kong, under the "one country, two systems" policy, can gather data from both the mainland and international sources, and as an international financial center and talent hub, can provide efficient funding and talent support for the development of artificial intelligence startups and enterprises and related projects.
In his recent budget speech, Andrew Wong proposed to increase resource input to promote the upgrading of five elements, namely computing power, algorithms, data, talent, and capital, and to strengthen the development of new artificial intelligence application scenarios. The budget also reserved HK$1 billion to establish the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute to accelerate the upstream research and downstream conversion and industrial application of artificial intelligence. Through active promotion of efficient collaboration between government, industry, academia, research, and investment, Hong Kong can accelerate the development of artificial intelligence as a key industry and become a hub for international exchanges and cooperation in the industry.
Currently, HKGAI has independently developed a variety of artificial intelligence services, from professional consulting to anti-counterfeiting technology, from image content generation to music creation, demonstrating the diverse application scenarios of artificial intelligence. This donation will support the establishment of a service platform for the center to provide the "Hong Kong Talk" service, which is based on the first local model of the DeepSeek system. Andrew Wong looks forward to the further development of the model, which will extend to more application scenarios and make it more accessible to the public and citizens.
