ChatGPT Unveils New Voice Features: Multilingual Magic with a Personal Touch
OpenAI has recently introduced a highly anticipated advanced voice assistant feature for paying ChatGPT users. This new functionality is now available to subscribers of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus and Team plans, with plans for rollout to Edu and Enterprise subscribers starting next week.
The advanced voice mode of ChatGPT will be gradually accessible to all Plus and Team users throughout this week. As part of its enhancements, OpenAI has added customizable instructions, memory features, five new voices, and improved accents, supporting over 50 languages.
OpenAI has emphasized the software's multilingual capabilities, highlighting its ability to apologize in over 50 languages. For example, the voice assistant can seamlessly switch from English to Mandarin, reflecting users’ preferences and locales.
With the update, ChatGPT introduces new voices inspired by nature, including Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale, expanding the total voice options to nine. Each is designed to create a more natural interaction experience.
The updated voice feature also comes with extended customization options known as “custom instructions,” and a memory system that enables ChatGPT to remember past conversations, enhancing user interaction.
Despite the advancements, the multi-modal features previously showcased by OpenAI, such as video and screen sharing, have not yet been released. Moreover, the advanced voice mode is currently not available in regions such as the EU, UK, and several others.
