Carronade Capital Management pushes Viasat to split units: FT
Viasat, Inc. has announced that it has been selected by the U.S. Government to build a next-generation Ethernet Data Encryptor (EDE) solution as part of a sole-source multi-million dollar Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) award [1]. Under this contract, Viasat will design and develop a high-assurance, high-speed EDE to meet the most stringent government security standards for protecting classified data up to Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) levels.
This new high-assurance EDE will expand on the capabilities of Viasat's first-generation KG-142, which has been protecting cloud and transport data networks since 2017. The next-generation EDE is expected to provide 16 times more bandwidth and an estimated 60% power savings compared to its current generation of high-speed EDE products, while maintaining the same footprint. It will also offer the highest encryption bandwidth density of any available high-assurance EDE, capable of processing over 100,000 simultaneous 4K video streams per minute.
The new EDE will utilize Viasat's PSIAM technology architecture, which has been trusted for 20 years to secure sensitive government data. This technology allows for intelligent, reprogrammable protection that can evolve with customer needs through software upgrades, reducing the need for costly hardware replacements.
Viasat received this IDIQ award during the first half of its 2025 fiscal year. Through this multi-year contract, Viasat's government encryption team under its Defense and Advanced Technologies segment will develop, certify, and sustain this next-generation high-assurance encryptor to meet evolving government security specifications, cloud communications requirements, and security threats.
This contract underscores Viasat's commitment to providing advanced encryption solutions to protect sensitive government data. As the company continues to innovate in the field of encryption, it is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for high-assurance, high-speed data encryption in the government sector.
