"Cardano's 'Plomin' Upgrade Empowers ADA Holders with Voting Power"
Cardano, a layer-1 blockchain launched in 2017 by Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson, has activated its highly anticipated "Plomin" upgrade, marking a significant step towards a decentralized governance system. The upgrade, which went live on Wednesday, empowers ADA token holders to shape Cardano's future by voting on treasury measures and hard forks.
The Plomin upgrade is the latest in a series of hard forks for Cardano, following the "Chang" hard fork four months ago. The biggest change brought by Plomin is the full implementation of Delegate Representatives (dReps), who will vote on governance issues on behalf of ADA token holders. Previously, Cardano's three founding entities—the Cardano Foundation, Input Output Global (IOHK), and Emurgo—were in charge of governance changes and triggering chain upgrades. Now, the keys they held and those responsibilities are delegated to new Cardano governance groups.
Before the Plomin upgrade, Stake Pool Operators needed to upgrade their nodes and approve the upgrade with a 51% vote. As of this week, roughly 85% of nodes were with the new version, allowing the network to proceed with the changes. Looking ahead, the Cardano community is already tackling a series of new issues to implement, with a focus on making Cardano faster, adding privacy-preserving features, and increasing developer utility.
The Plomin hard fork signifies a pivotal evolution for the ADA ecosystem, empowering ADA token holders with substantial voting power regarding protocol changes and future developments. This upgrade marks a significant leap towards decentralization, aligning with blockchain principles and enhancing user trust and engagement within the Cardano ecosystem.
The Plomin hard fork enhances governance for ADA holders, granting them real voting power for protocol changes and future upgrades. This evolution not only aligns with blockchain decentralization principles but also ensures that the interests of all stakeholders are represented in the blockchain's evolution. The upgrade involves a consensus among developers regarding the transition, ensuring that the network's integrity remains intact.
Following the upgrade, Cardano received additional momentum from Charles Hoskinson's strategic involvement in U.S. crypto policy discussions. His commitment to engaging with policymakers aims to strengthen Cardano's position in the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, supporting innovation while ensuring user protection.
