BYD has introduced the M6, its first electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in Indonesia. Priced from 379 million to 429 million Indonesian Rupiah, the M6 is designed to meet the local market's demand for eco-friendly transportation. This launch expands BYD's global reach beyond its home market, China, where it recently ceased production of gas-powered cars, focusing on EVs. The M6 will not be available in China, where BYD has been marketing plug-in hybrid and electric models.

As the global demand for eco-friendly transportation continues to grow, Chinese automaker BYD has taken a significant step forward by launching its first electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in Indonesia. The new M6 model, priced between 379 million and 429 million Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $23,400-$26,500 USD) [1], is designed to meet the local market's needs and marks BYD's first foray into the Indonesian MPV segment.

BYD's newest offering, which was showcased at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), is powered by 55.4 kWh and 71.8 kWh BYD Blade batteries and comes with two NEDC ranges of 420 km and 530 km, respectively [1]. The entry-level trim features a single electric motor with a maximum power of 163 hp and a peak torque of 310 Nm, while high-end trims boast dual electric motors, producing 204 hp and enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds and 8.6 seconds, respectively [1].

The M6 shares similarities with BYD's Song Max model, but its appearance has been updated to cater to the Indonesian market [1]. The vehicle features a large closed area at the front, integrated with slender headlights and a chrome strip housing the BYD logo. At the rear, the taillights are decorated with a horizontal chrome strip and the "BYD M6" logo is located in the lower right corner [1].

BYD's expansion into the Indonesian market comes at an opportune time, as the Chinese automaker recently ceased production of gas-powered cars in its home market and is now focusing solely on electric vehicles (EVs) [2]. The M6, however, will not be available in China, where BYD has been marketing plug-in hybrid and electric models such as the e6 and Song Max [2].

The M6 offers a six-seater and seven-seater layout and comes equipped with a 12.8-inch rotatable touch screen, which is compatible with CarPlay and features the BYD DiLink system [1]. Standard features include keyless entry, one-button start, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, six airbags, and electronic stability control, while high-end trims also offer a panoramic sunroof, front seat ventilation, wireless charging, an electric tailgate, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring [1]. The standard trunk volume is 652 L.
