Best Buy launches a new online marketplace, allowing third-party sellers to offer products on its website and app, effectively doubling the number of available products. This move mirrors Amazon and Walmart's strategies, expanding Best Buy's digital offerings and providing customers with a broader range of options.

Best Buy has launched a new online marketplace, marking a significant expansion of its digital offerings. This move, which mirrors the strategies of Amazon and Walmart, aims to provide customers with a broader range of products and enhance the company's digital presence.

The new marketplace, powered by Mirakl, will more than double the number of products available on Best Buy's website and app. This expansion includes a variety of new categories such as seasonal decor, automotive tech, office and home products, and movies and music. Additionally, Best Buy will introduce licensed sports merchandise from Fanatics for the first time [1].

Frank Bedo, chief marketplace and e-commerce officer at Best Buy, stated, "Our customers have always looked to us to bring excitement and inspiration in ways only technology can. With marketplace, we’re able to give them not only more of the latest technology, but a massive new collection of products outside of the tech space so we can truly offer the full experience they need" [1].

The marketplace will offer a wide range of new products from top brands and third-party sellers. For example, Best Buy has expanded its tech lineup with the latest offerings from brands like Samsung, Microsoft, LG, Lenovo, and HP. The assortment across categories has also leveled up, including more options for gaming setups, mobile accessories, and consumer electronics. Top-rated sellers such as Beach Camera, World Wide Stereo, and Antonline are joining the Best Buy assortment, bringing in a variety of tech products [1].

The new marketplace also includes a wider selection of small appliances and kitchen must-haves, such as Oster, Crock-Pot, Martha Stewart, Zulay Kitchen, and Cuckoo. Additionally, Best Buy is expanding its furniture assortment, with three times more options, including TV stands, office desks, gaming chairs, sofas, coffee tables, and patio furniture. Seasonal decor, musical instruments, and a broader range of toys are also being introduced [1].

Best Buy stores will play a key role in the launch of the marketplace, allowing customers to return products purchased through a Marketplace seller at their local store or ship them back to the seller. Blue Shirts, Best Buy's in-store employees, will also assist customers in discovering and purchasing products from the marketplace, both in-store and online [1].

The launch of the new marketplace is part of Best Buy's strategy to expand its product assortment and complement its core tech offerings. By offering a broader range of products, Best Buy aims to provide customers with a more comprehensive shopping experience and increase market share in complementary areas. This move also allows Best Buy to offer products that would otherwise be out of stock, providing additional color options and variations, including legacy products and refurbished items [1].
