Bugatti, the renowned high-end automaker, is set to introduce a new ultra-exclusive program of one-of-one cars called Solitaire. This marks a return to coachbuilding for the company, which has traditionally been known for its bespoke, handcrafted vehicles. The move is a response to the growing wealth gap, with a small elite seeking bespoke, high-value vehicles that offer unparalleled customization and exclusivity.

The Solitaire program will officially begin on August 7, when the first custom-built model will be unveiled. A series of cryptic teasers has already offered an early look at what to expect. The model is described as "a celebration of grace and elegance, rooted in the unique artistry and heritage of the Bugatti story, our latest Solitaire" [1]. The teasers reveal a wide horseshoe grille with an aluminum finish, positioned above a carbon fiber splitter, and a coupe-style rear windscreen that may double as an engine cover.

While it might seem logical to assume the one-off creation shares its platform with the recently unveiled Bugatti Tourbillon, the tone of the social media posts suggests otherwise. Bugatti’s caption reads: “Not simply customized, completely unique. Prepare to reimagine what defines a Bugatti, one singular vision at a time. Every curve sculpted with purpose. Every detail crafted to perfection” [1]. This language points toward a vehicle that could differ meaningfully from the Tourbillon’s architecture.

The new model will be part of The Perridon Collection, a private gathering of rare Bugattis owned by Dutch businessman Michel Perridon. Often described as the world’s largest Bugatti collection, it will soon have this unique creation added to its ranks [1].

Whether this new chapter of coachbuilding will branch out into different platforms and powertrains remains to be seen, though it’s clear the company is expanding beyond traditional forms. The Tourbillon, for comparison, is underpinned by a carbon fiber monocoque and features a naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V16 engine, working alongside three electric motors. This hybrid setup delivers a combined 1,775 hp (1,324 kW / 1,800 PS), making it the most powerful production Bugatti to date, well ahead of the W16-powered models that came before [1].
