BSNL has upgraded over 75% of its mobile towers in Hyderabad to 4G, with work ongoing to cover the remaining. The telco is also developing indigenous 5G technology and has upgraded its transmission network to MAAN, enabling higher bandwidth availability in 4G mobile and FTTH services. Additionally, BSNL has launched Q-5G services in Hyderabad, providing high-speed enterprise internet connectivity.
BSNL has made significant strides in upgrading its mobile towers and developing new technologies in Hyderabad. According to a recent announcement by the Principal General Manager (PGM) M. Chandra Sekhar, over 75% of BSNL's mobile towers in the city have been upgraded to 4G, with ongoing work to cover the remaining towers [1]. This upgrade ensures seamless 4G connectivity for BSNL's mobile users across the city.
In addition to the 4G expansion, BSNL is committed to developing indigenous 5G technology. The company is preparing for a nationwide 5G rollout after stabilizing its 4G footprint [2]. BSNL's 4G network in India is currently led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which has secured a contract to supply nearly 18,700 of the 19,000 new 4G sites ordered by BSNL [2]. This expansion is part of BSNL's strategy to grow its enterprise business by at least 15% in 2025, leveraging IoT, private 5G, slicing, and digital public infrastructure [2].
BSNL has also upgraded its transmission network to the advanced MAAN (Metro Aggregation Access Network) in Hyderabad, enabling higher bandwidth availability for both 4G mobile and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) services [1]. The commissioning of an International Gateway (IGW) in Hyderabad has further improved internet speeds and reduced latency by eliminating the need to route traffic through Chennai [1].
One of the key announcements was the rollout of BSNL's Q-5G services in Hyderabad, marking India's first indigenous Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution [3]. This service is designed to offer high-speed internet connectivity for enterprises, a crucial step in advancing the digital transformation of Hyderabad's business ecosystem [3].
BSNL's strategic partners business development meeting also highlighted the creation of a new Operational Area-3 (OA-3), headquartered at Lingampally, covering key growth hubs such as Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Lingampally, and Kondapur [3]. This move aims to improve BSNL's outreach and customer service efficiency in rapidly developing urban and high-rise zones across Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts [3].
