State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deploy India's first 5G captive non-public network (CNPN) in the refinery sector. This strategic partnership aims to establish secure, ultra-reliable, and real-time industrial connectivity, leveraging indigenous 5G infrastructure for mission-critical operations [1].The MoU was signed during the "Industry 4.0 Workshop for CPSEs" organized by the Ministry of Finance in Guwahati. Under this agreement, BSNL and NRL will collaborate to deploy the 5G CNPN within the refinery sector, marking a pioneering step in leveraging 5G technology for core industrial operations [1].
BSNL, which has recently started offering 4G services, holds spectrum that can be utilized for 5G services. The partnership is expected to set a precedent for other industrial sectors, reinforcing the Government of India's vision for a digitally empowered and self-reliant Bharat [1].
BSNL chairman and managing director A Robert J Ravi highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating that it exemplifies BSNL's commitment to empowering strategic sectors with next-generation digital infrastructure. The deployment of a dedicated 5G CNPN at NRL is anticipated to redefine core industries' operations, marking a technological leap forward in connectivity [1].
Papa Sudhakara Rao, BSNL's Enterprise Business Director, described the collaboration as a historic milestone in the adoption of 5G and Industry 4.0 within India's industrial ecosystem [1].
