BSE Smallcap Index Zooms 27% from 52-Week Low, 18 Stocks Hit Record Highs

The BSE Smallcap index has gained 27% from its 52-week low, with 18 stocks hitting all-time highs, including Eris Lifesciences, Apollo Micro Systems, and Hitachi Energy India. 13 stocks from the index have more than doubled from their three-month lows, with GRSE, NIBE, and Bharat Dynamics from the aerospace & defence sector seeing significant gains. Recent geopolitical developments have accelerated demand for indigenous defence solutions, driving interest in these stocks.

The BSE Smallcap index has witnessed a significant rebound, gaining 27% from its 52-week low, with 18 stocks reaching all-time highs. The rally was led by stocks from the aerospace and defense sector, with Eris Lifesciences, Apollo Micro Systems, and Hitachi Energy India among the notable performers. The index outperformed broader market indices, gaining nearly 1% after a sharp rally in private defense, capital goods, and public sector undertakings (PSUs).

At 02:31 PM IST on May 28, 2025, the BSE Smallcap index was up 0.54% at 52,146, while the BSE Sensex was down 0.19% and the BSE Midcap index traded flat. The index has bounced back from its 52-week low of 41,013.68, touched on May 7, 2025, and hit a 52-week high of 57,827.69 on December 12, 2024.

Among the 18 stocks that hit their respective all-time highs, Eris Lifesciences, Apollo Micro Systems, Force Motors, Paradeep Phosphates, India Glycols, EID Parry, and Hitachi Energy India were prominent. Additionally, several stocks from the index, including Ravindra Energy, Precision Camshafts, Apollo Micro Systems, IFCI, Techno Electric & Engineering Company, MMTC, Unimech Aerospace and Manufacturing, and Triveni Engineering & Industries, rallied between 10% and 20%.

Geopolitical developments, particularly the India-Pakistan conflict, have accelerated demand for indigenous defense solutions. Several defense companies successfully tested and demonstrated their systems during this period, generating significant interest and engagement across the defense value chain. Stocks such as Garden Reach Shipbuilders Engineers (GRSE), NIBE, Bharat Dynamics (BDL), Data Patterns (India), Paras Defence and Space Technologies, and Astra Microwave Products have seen their market prices more than double from their three-month lows.

GRSE hit a new high of ₹2,944, gaining 5% on the BSE in intra-day trade on May 28, 2025. The stock price of GRSE has zoomed 150% from its three-month low of ₹1,180.10 touched on March 4, 2025. In the March 2025 quarter (Q4FY25), GRSE’s revenue from operations moved up from ₹1,015 crore to ₹1,642 crore, registering a growth of 62%. EBITDA moved up from ₹166 crore to ₹335 crore, registering a growth of 101%, and the profit after tax moved up from ₹114 crore to ₹244 crore, registering a 118% growth.

Apollo Micro Systems also hit a new high of ₹183.60, soaring 18% on the BSE in intra-day trade on May 27, 2025, amid heavy volumes. The stock price of Apollo Micro Systems has zoomed 32% in the past two trading days and 57% in May 2025. The company received an export order worth $13,366,500 (approximately ₹113.81 crore) for the development of an Avionic System.

In contrast, Bharat Dynamics slipped 1.42% to ₹1,198.05 after reporting a 5.54% decline in net profit to ₹272.77 crore in Q4FY25, despite a 108.05% surge in total revenue from operations to ₹1,776.98 crore. The company's profit before tax (PBT) fell 2.5% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹378.18 crore, while total expenses soared 170.11% YoY to ₹1,498.37 crore.
