Broadcom (AVGO.US) said it did not evaluate a bid for Intel (INTC.US)

According to media reports on Saturday, Broadcom (AVGO.US) had previously evaluated a potential bid for Intel (INTC.US), and its advisers were continuing to advise the company. However, the latest news showed that the insiders revealed that Broadcom was not currently assessing a bid for Intel.

Moreover, on Friday, it was reported that Qualcomm (QCOM.US) had recently approached Intel and was in talks to acquire the company. However, it was unclear what Intel's response was, or what the acquisition terms or offer were. The sources said that Qualcomm executives were very interested in Intel's client personal computer design business, but they were considering the company's entire design departments. Intel is currently working to create cash and is seeking to spin off its business units and sell other assets.

If the acquisition is successful, it will be one of the largest technology deals in history. Of course, such a large acquisition is highly uncertain, even if both sides are interested, and will face rigorous antitrust review. It is worth noting that even if Broadcom plans to acquire Intel, the deal will face regulatory challenges, as Broadcom's plan to acquire Qualcomm was blocked by the US government in March 2018 on national security grounds.
