Brightline CEO Says Freight Rail Suit Won't Halt Florida Commuter Rail Project

Brightline, a private train operator, is facing a lawsuit from Florida East Coast Railway over a planned commuter rail project in South Florida. Brightline's CEO, Patrick Goddard, stated that the suit won't derail the project, which is expected to run through Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. The project, called Coastal Link, aims to add commuter service and increase passenger train frequency, with federal, state, and local governments sharing the cost. Financing for the first phase of the project in Miami-Dade County was shifted to other infrastructure projects, but Goddard expects lawmakers to address funding in the next legislative session.
