A bridge collapse causes a train to derail in Russia, killing at least 3 people, officials say
MOSCOW — A passenger train derailed in western Russia late Saturday after a bridge collapsed due to what local officials described as "illegal interference." At least three people were killed, and 28 others were injured [1].
The incident occurred in the Bryansk region, en route from Moscow to Klimov. The bridge, which was damaged as a result of illegal interference in transport operations, caused the train to come off its tracks [1].
Emergency services and government officials are working at the scene to provide assistance to the victims. The regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz, stated that everything is being done to help those affected [1].
This is not the first time alleged saboteurs have used explosive devices to derail a train in Russia. In November 2023, a terrorism investigation was launched after explosions derailed 19 cars in the Ryzan Region [2].
The exact cause of the bridge collapse and the number of casualties are still under investigation. Moscow Railways has stated that other train traffic is not impacted by the incident [2].
