Researchers at California Institute of Technology have developed a technique using light and sound to produce images of the inside of the body, specifically for breast cancer screening. The method involves a scanner sending laser light into breast tissue, converting it into ultrasonic energy, and an algorithm combining the data with machine learning to create high-resolution images. Early clinical results showed it performed as well as or better than conventional imaging techniques. This technology could potentially reduce the discomfort and pain associated with traditional mammograms.
