JBS--

Brazil's environmental authorities have issued fines to several ranchers and slaughterhouses, including JBS, the world's largest meat supplier, amid a major operation that seized around 7,000 illegal cattle in the Amazon. The fines come amid growing concerns about the impact of American beef imports on the Amazon rainforest. Nearly a quarter of Brazil's beef exports to the US come from slaughterhouses located near areas of illegal deforestation. JBS was fined $75,000 for allegedly purchasing cattle raised on land previously embargoed due to illegal deforestation.
