Boeing Co. is set to potentially secure a major order for 200 single-aisle aircraft from Flydubai, with an additional option for 100 more 717 jets. This deal, if finalized, could be announced during the Dubai Air Show, which begins on Monday, November 17, 2025. The agreement would represent the largest order in Flydubai’s history and a potential shift in the airline’s procurement strategy.
Flydubai, which is owned by the government of Dubai and operates as the low-cost sister airline to Emirates, currently maintains a fleet of
aircraft. However, recent delays in the delivery of Boeing 737 narrowbody jets have prompted the carrier to explore alternative suppliers. The airline’s CEO, , recently visited Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, to discuss potential terms of the deal. Though no final decision has been made, the engagement with Airbus has raised the possibility of a dual-sourcing strategy for Flydubai’s fleet. While Boeing is the front-runner for the deal, Airbus remains in the running, with some industry sources noting that the European manufacturer has a small but non-zero chance of securing a portion of the order. This would mark the first time Flydubai has considered an order from Airbus, an aircraft maker it has historically not sourced from. The potential deal is being discussed in the context of broader industry dynamics, including production delays, supply constraints, and shifting procurement strategies by airlines seeking greater flexibility and resilience.

The Dubai Air Show is expected to serve as the stage for major aviation deals and announcements, with both Boeing and Airbus likely to unveil new orders or renewals. The event is a key platform for manufacturers to showcase their latest offerings and for airlines to communicate their growth and fleet modernization plans. Flydubai’s potential shift in supplier strategy highlights the competitive landscape between the two dominant aircraft manufacturers and underscores the significance of this airshow in shaping the future of the aviation sector in the region.
