In 2023, the company opened a 40,000 square foot Electric Vehicle (EV) Build-up Center to meet the rising demand for clean student transportation nationwide. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently selected Blue Bird to receive an $80 million grant to convert a former manufacturing site for diesel-powered motorhomes into an approximately 600,000 square foot, electric and low-emissions vehicle manufacturing facility. This grant represents 50 percent of the total $160 million investment required to complete the conversion project, which will add more than 400 new, good-paying manufacturing jobs.

Blue Bird's exclusive clean school bus collaboration with Ford Component Sales and ROUSH CleanTech until 2030 further demonstrates the company's commitment to providing low-emission transportation solutions. This collaboration allows Blue Bird to offer propane- and gasoline-powered school buses that will meet more stringent emission standards taking effect in 2027. Blue Bird's near zero-emission, propane-powered school buses already exceed these emission standards today.
