Blockchain Deposit Insurance Corporation (BDIC) has appointed James McCarthy as Senior Strategic Advisor and Chief Operating Officer of its newly launched division, BDIC RWA Consulting [1]. This division specializes in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and will provide consulting and token coverage vetting services in alignment with BDIC Insurance. McCarthy brings over five decades of experience in finance and private equity, with a history of managing billions of dollars in transactions across the U.S., Europe, and Latin America [1]. Currently, he is leading several RWA initiatives, including structuring a tokenized U.S. real estate fund and preparing a U.S.-based bridge-lending platform for listing on a U.K. Alternative Trading System [1].
McCarthy, a Columbia University MBA and Master of City & Regional Planning graduate from Rutgers University, is set to leverage his experience to guide BDIC RWA Consulting through the development and execution of new tokenization projects [1]. His responsibilities include leading the underwriting process for existing tokenization projects seeking BDIC insurance coverage, as well as overseeing the inception and execution of new partner initiatives [1]. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for LendMetrix, a fintech startup focused on modernizing construction-loan management [1].
Jeffrey A. Glusman, Founder and CEO of BDIC, emphasized McCarthy’s proven leadership and alignment with BDIC’s mission, stating that his appointment positions the company to lead in secure, compliant tokenization solutions for sovereign and enterprise partners [1]. McCarthy expressed enthusiasm about joining BDIC during a pivotal moment, highlighting the potential of tokenization to unlock liquidity and drive economic growth [1].
This appointment marks a strategic expansion for BDIC, which has seen recent leadership additions, including Oliver Plukrose as Chief Technology Officer and James R. Owens to the Board of Advisors [1]. These hires have contributed to the company’s infrastructure and vision, with Plukrose bringing experience in building secure systems and Owens offering expertise in decentralized architecture and smart contracts [1].
BDIC’s Hong Kong operations, led by Paul Kohli, are also advancing, with efforts to secure regulatory approval as an insurance provider and pursue coverholder status with Lloyd’s of London [1]. The company has already established banking operations with Hang Seng Bank and is planning for a token generation event in Q4 2025 for its native utility token, intended for use in payments, settlements, and governance [1].
BDIC is also expected to announce expanded product offerings, wallet and exchange partnerships, and new institutional network partners in the coming weeks [1].
