Blink Charging (NASDAQ: BLNK) and Universal Media have joined forces to introduce the EV Totem, an innovative combination of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions and dual-sided digital media displays. The initial installation is now available at Mountain View Village in Salt Lake City, Utah. The EV Totem not only provides reliable charging for EV drivers but also delivers a dynamic media experience through real-time, location-based ad targeting and integrated analytics.
The EV Totem features 55-inch high-definition displays positioned seven feet above the ground, ensuring optimal visibility even when vehicles are parked for charging. This strategic elevation addresses a common challenge with traditional street-level digital advertising. The units are equipped with real-time, location-based ad targeting capabilities and integrated analytics, creating multiple revenue streams for Blink and its partners.
The collaboration between Blink Charging and Universal Media represents a strategic pivot toward a dual-revenue business model. By transforming EV charging stations into dynamic media platforms, Blink aims to enhance its monetization strategy and differentiate itself from competitors focused solely on charging infrastructure.
The initial installation at Mountain View Village serves as a proof-of-concept for a planned wider rollout to additional high-traffic locations. This approach mirrors successful monetization strategies from adjacent industries, such as how gas stations evolved beyond fuel sales to incorporate convenience stores and advertising.
Blink Charging's President and Chief Executive Officer, Mike Battaglia, expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, "Together, we’re transforming the EV charging experience into a dynamic media and mobility platform — bringing relevant content to drivers while they charge."
Todd Cohen, Co-founder and CEO of Universal Media LLC, added, "The EV Totem is designed to transform EV charging into a smarter, connected platform — one that delivers value for drivers while unlocking new opportunities for brands, property partners, and communities."
The EV Totem units are now available to drivers at Mountain View Village, a high-traffic retail and lifestyle destination. The partnership between Blink and Universal Media marks the first step in their joint strategy to expand EV Totem installations to additional high-traffic locations.
