Bitwise Lists Four Crypto ETPs on London Stock Exchange for Institutional Access

Bitwise has expanded its presence in the European market by listing four crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). This move is aimed at providing institutional investors with regulated access to Bitcoin and Ethereum, without the need for direct custody of the assets. The offerings include two Bitcoin products and two Ethereum products, all structured as physically backed ETPs. The Bitwise Core Bitcoin ETP is designed for long-term, cost-efficient exposure, while the Bitwise Physical Bitcoin ETP is tailored for active trading. The Ethereum-focused offerings include a standard physical ETP and a staking-linked version that distributes rewards.
These ETPs are fully backed by the corresponding crypto assets, held in cold storage and safeguarded by independent trustees. The listings, announced on April 16, 2025, mark a significant push into European markets following Bitwise's acquisition of ETC Group last year. The firm's expansion into London is part of a broader strategy to integrate crypto allocations within traditional portfolios, presenting digital assets as long-term holdings that are settled, secured, and formatted for institutional systems.
Bradley Duke, managing director of Bitwise Europe, highlighted the growing institutional demand for regulated exposure to crypto assets. "Investing in crypto is rapidly becoming mainstream and institutional investors increasingly allocate digital assets to their portfolios," he said. Bitwise aims to continue innovating its product range in dialogue with investors to meet their needs in this rapidly developing asset class.
The design of these ETPs, especially those listed on regulated exchanges like the LSE, offers a solution by folding crypto into the existing financial architecture. This approach removes operational hurdles for institutional allocators, making it easier for them to access crypto exposure while staying within compliance rails. The LSE, being one of Europe’s most liquid and trusted exchanges, provides a regulated and familiar platform for institutional investors to gain exposure to crypto assets.
These products remain available only to professional investors in the UK, reflecting regulatory concerns over volatility and consumer protection. However, the listing on the LSE offers a foothold in one of the continent’s most active financial centers, paving the way for broader institutional adoption of crypto assets. As crypto matures into a recognized part of global markets, the focus shifts from whether institutions will participate to how they will access exposure in a compliant manner.
