BitMEX Outperforms Peers With 62.55% Average Gain In Perpetual Swaps
BitMEX, a prominent crypto derivatives exchange, has released a comprehensive study analyzing the price trends of perpetual swaps across major centralized exchanges. The study, which examined listings from the beginning of 2025 to March 2025, compared data from BitMEX, Binance, Bybit, and OKX, revealing significant variations in price performance across these platforms.
One of the key findings from the study is that BitMEX outperformed other exchanges with an average gain of 62.55% among listings that appreciated after the first day. Notably, 58.33% of BitMEX's listings continued to appreciate post-listing day, indicating sustained price growth. This performance contrasts with other exchanges, where a smaller percentage of listings saw continued appreciation. For instance, only 41.67% of BitMEX listings reached their all-time high (ATH) on the first day, compared to 70.83% on OKX and 50% on Binance. This data challenges the notion that perpetual swaps always peak on their first day of listing, highlighting the exchange-specific nature of price trends.
The study also revealed that most tokens which appreciate post-listing reach their maximum price within the first week. BitMEX listings, in particular, took a median of six days to peak, suggesting that traders should monitor price movements closely during this period. Stephan Lutz, CEO of BitMEX, emphasized the exchange's ability to identify and support promising token projects, attributing this success to their rigorous listing process and market structure. This unique advantage allows traders to capitalize on sustained price appreciation, making BitMEX a preferred platform for both traders and projects.
The analysis underscores the importance of understanding exchange-specific dynamics for traders looking to profit from perpetual swap listings. By leveraging these insights, traders can develop more effective strategies tailored to the unique characteristics of each exchange. For example, traders might focus on exchanges with higher liquidity and more stable price trends to minimize risk, or opt for exchanges with lower liquidity and more volatile price movements for higher potential returns. The study provides valuable guidance for navigating the evolving landscape of new perpetual swap listings, helping traders make more informed decisions and maximize their potential in the cryptocurrency derivatives market.
