Bitcoin Under Pressure: Can BTC Survive Rising Treasury Yields?

ETF outflows and rising yields are testing BitcoinBTC-- demand
After $8.2 billion of ETF outflows, rising Treasury yields are testing whether Bitcoin's support is durable or merely borrowed.
The market has already absorbed an early shock. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $3.4 billion in a single week, after a 13-day streak that pulled $4.4 billion. Even so, Bitcoin remained around the low-$63,000 area during the stress. That does not prove demand is strong, but it does suggest the sell-off was not yet accompanied by a complete collapse in price.
Rebalancing, not full capitulation?
Bears see eight straight weeks of outflows and read that as permanent demand failure. That may still prove right, but the evidence also fits a simpler explanation: macro-driven rebalancing. Rising yields and broader risk-off positioning likely pushed institutions to cut exposure across risk assets, with Bitcoin ETFs catching part of that pressure.
What matters now is whether outflows keep building while Bitcoin weakens, or whether they ease while price holds. That distinction matters more than the headline outflow number.

How higher Treasury yields can pressure BTC before ETF flows fully break
Risk limits often tighten before fresh spot buying stops
ETF flows are only one part of institutional decision-making. When Treasury yields rise, portfolio systems often tighten risk limits, reduce leverage, and cut margin capacity before spot demand visibly cracks. That helps explain why Bitcoin was still able to hold a $61,300 to $64,700 range even while the broader ETF trend remained weak.
The clearest sign came through positioning, not just spot flows. In mid-June, open interest moved from around $45.64B to $46.95B while funding stayed subdued and slightly negative. That combination suggests some risk returned to the market, but not an aggressive long chase. It is a more cautious setup than a clean breakout, and it is more fragile than a true collapse.
July showed the setup can change quickly
The July reversal is the clearest counterexample. Bitcoin rallied more than 13% from a July 1 low while U.S. spot ETFs posted seven consecutive sessions of inflows totaling about $981.2 million. That improvement came even with the US 10-year Treasury yield at 4.695% and September Fed hike odds near 78%, according to the cited reporting.
That does not prove yields no longer matter. It does show Bitcoin can rebound before the macro backdrop fully improves, especially after a period of outflows and weak positioning.
What this means for the next move
If yields keep institutions in squeeze mode, ETF demand can stay fragile even near support. But if flows stabilize, price does not need fresh euphoria to move. It only needs less friction.
The weekly decision: ETF tape first, then price levels
The key question is no longer whether Bitcoin can shrug off one bad week. It is whether recent pain is turning into a lasting supply test.
The flow rule for this week
Watch the ETF tape closely. The complex just saw more than $465 million of outflows on July 23 and July 24, yet it still posted $33.8 million of inflows for the full week and extended a third consecutive weekly inflow streak. It also recovered to $80.9 billion in total net assets.
- Bearish sign: more negative ETF prints and another stretch of late-week withdrawals would suggest the recent rebound is losing support.
- Bullish sign: a return to positive net inflows would imply the two-day bleed was a macro wobble rather than a broken demand curve.
The price levels that matter
Bitcoin still has aggregate Realised Price near $54,000 cited as a structural floor, while Short-Term Holder Realised Price near $72,200 remains the nearer resistance area.
August drivers to monitor
August still looks driven by inflation, jobs, treasury yields, dollar strength, ETF flows, and the timing of the next rate hike. The cleanest bearish case is simple: ETFs stay net negative into key macro data, and Bitcoin breaks below the recent $61,300 to $64,700 range instead of bouncing off it.
If that does not happen, the market may remain vulnerable to sharp moves in either direction rather than a slow, controlled fade.
