A former Brazilian man has been extradited to the United States to face charges related to an alleged $290 million Bitcoin Ponzi scheme. The man, identified as Rodrigo Alexandre da Silva, is accused of defrauding thousands of investors in a cryptocurrency investment scheme.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced the extradition on Tuesday, stating that da Silva was arrested in Brazil in 2019 and has been fighting extradition since then. He is now expected to appear in a U.S. court to face charges of wire fraud, securities fraud, and money laundering.

The alleged Ponzi scheme, known as "BitClub Network," promised investors high returns on their investments in Bitcoin mining operations. The BitClub Network was first exposed in 2019, when the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against da Silva and his co-conspirators. The indictment alleged that the scheme had been operating since at least 2014 and had defrauded investors out of more than $722 million.
