BlackRock’s iShares
Trust (ETHA) has surged to $10.5 billion in assets under management within a year, securing its position as the third-fastest ETF in history to reach the $10 billion milestone. Launched in July 2024, the fund’s explosive growth saw it leap from $5 billion to $10 billion in just 10 days, a pace Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas described as “the ETF equivalent of a God candle.” This rapid ascent places behind only two Bitcoin-focused funds—BlackRock’s iShares Trust (IBIT) and Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC)—in the record for speed to $10 billion [1].The fund’s performance underscores robust demand for Ethereum, fueled by institutional adoption and the asset’s transition to a proof-of-stake model. Over the past six trading days, spot Ether ETFs have attracted $2.4 billion in new capital, outpacing Bitcoin ETFs by a significant margin. Industry expert Nate Geraci noted that Ether ETFs have consistently outperformed their Bitcoin counterparts in recent weeks, drawing $2.4 billion compared to $830 million for Bitcoin ETFs over the same period [3]. This trend highlights growing institutional confidence in Ethereum’s ecosystem, particularly in decentralized finance (DeFi) innovations.
ETHA’s success is further reflected in its inflow trajectory. On July 24, Fidelity’s FETH fund alone saw a $210 million influx, setting a new record for the asset manager. Cumulative inflows for Ether ETFs reached $231 million on the same day, extending a 15-day streak without outflows. Over the past seven days, $3 billion has flowed into Ether ETFs—a third of the total inflows since their July 2024 launch [3]. These figures indicate a sustained appetite for Ethereum exposure, even as Bitcoin has faced recent volatility.
Ethereum’s price resilience has also distinguished it from Bitcoin’s recent decline. While Bitcoin dropped over 3% in 12 hours, Ether maintained stability at $3,630, rising 48% month-to-date. Analysts attribute this to sustained buying pressure from exchange-traded products (ETPs) and corporate treasuries, which Bitwise estimates have collectively purchased 2.8 million ETH since mid-May—32 times the net new supply during the same period [4]. This divergence in price performance underscores the diverging trajectories of the two cryptocurrencies, with Ethereum’s fundamentals potentially offering a buffer against Bitcoin’s typical price swings.
Market observers remain cautiously optimistic about the broader crypto landscape. LVRG Research’s Nick Ruck noted that both Bitcoin and altcoins could rebound as Ether ETFs and crypto options approach key expirations. However, ETHA’s rapid growth has not surpassed BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF (IBIT), which reached $10 billion in 34 days in 2024 [5]. This highlights the ongoing dominance of Bitcoin in the ETF space, even as Ethereum gains traction.
The ETHA fund’s record-breaking growth underscores a shift in institutional capital toward Ethereum, driven by its technological evolution and ecosystem developments. As inflows continue to outpace outflows, the fund’s trajectory may signal a broader trend of diversification within crypto-related investments.
