BlackRock’s iShares
Trust (ETHA) has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the third-fastest ETF to amass $10 billion in assets under management within a year. Launched in July 2024, the fund reached $10.5 billion in AUM by July 2025, fueled by surging investor inflows and Ethereum’s growing institutional appeal. The rapid ascent included a jaw-dropping surge from $5 billion to $10 billion in just 10 days, a pace Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas dubbed “the ETF asset equivalent of a God candle” [1]. This places behind only two ETFs—BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC)—which previously held the top two fastest records for hitting $10 billion in a year [1].The ETHA’s meteoric growth is part of a broader trend in crypto-ETF adoption. Over the past 15 trading days, U.S. spot Ether ETFs have experienced uninterrupted inflows. Fidelity’s FETH fund alone recorded a record $210 million inflow on a single day, while total inflows for the period reached $2.4 billion—nearly triple the $830 million injected into Bitcoin ETFs during the same timeframe. Analyst Nate Geraci noted that Ether ETFs have outpaced Bitcoin counterparts in six of the last seven trading days, signaling a potential shift in investor priorities [2]. Over seven days, more than $3 billion has entered Ethereum ETFs, representing roughly a third of total inflows since their July 2024 launch [2].
ETHA’s success contrasts with Bitcoin’s recent price volatility. While Bitcoin has dropped over 3% in 12 hours, Ethereum has remained stable at $3,630, bucking its usual correlation with BTC. Institutional demand, particularly from ETPs and corporate treasuries, has propped up Ethereum’s price. Bitwise Research estimated that these entities have collectively purchased 2.8 million ETH since mid-May, far exceeding the net supply entering the market. This buying pressure has created a “range-bound channel” for ETH, which has risen 48% over the past month [3].
The fund’s trajectory highlights Ethereum’s evolving market dynamics. Unlike Bitcoin, which dominates speculative trading, Ethereum’s proof-of-stake transition and decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem growth have attracted long-term investors. Balchunas emphasized that ETHA’s performance reflects broader confidence in Ethereum’s fundamentals, even as Bitcoin faces short-term headwinds. Analyst Nick Ruck of LVRG Research noted optimism about a recovery in both BTC and altcoins, citing upcoming Ether ETF options expirations as potential catalysts [4].
BlackRock’s achievement underscores the firm’s dominance in crypto-ETF innovation. ETHA’s $10 billion threshold was reached in 251 days, a pace rivaled only by IBIT’s 34-day record and FBTC’s similarly rapid growth. However, this does not diminish Bitcoin’s institutional traction; IBIT remains the largest crypto ETF by AUM. ETHA’s success signals a diversification in investor strategies, with Ethereum gaining traction as a complementary asset to Bitcoin in portfolios [1].
