Sora Ventures has announced the launch of what it claims is Asia’s first $1 billion
treasury fund, aiming to purchase $1 billion in Bitcoin within six months. The initiative, unveiled during Taipei Blockchain Week, is backed by an initial $200 million in commitments from regional partners and investors. The fund will function as a centralized pool of institutional capital, supporting existing Bitcoin treasury firms while fostering the growth of similar ventures globally. This move builds on Sora Ventures’ prior investments in companies like Japan’s Metaplanet, Hong Kong’s Moon Inc., Thailand’s DV8, and South Korea’s BitPlanet—all of which have adopted Bitcoin as part of their corporate treasury strategies. The fund’s launch is a milestone in Asia’s growing institutional appetite for Bitcoin as a reserve asset. According to Sora Ventures, this is the first time such a large-scale commitment has emerged from the region to build a network of Bitcoin treasury firms. The firm’s management team, led by founder Jason Fang and partner Luke Liu, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the increasing interest in digital assets among institutional investors and reflects Asia’s growing role in the global blockchain and crypto ecosystem. Fang noted that while institutional adoption has historically been concentrated in the U.S. and EU, the Sora Ventures fund signals a shift in momentum toward Asia.
Sora Ventures has been actively involved in expanding corporate Bitcoin treasury strategies across the region. In 2024, the firm invested in Metaplanet, supporting its initial ¥1 billion (approximately $6.56 million) Bitcoin allocation. Over the following year, Sora acquired Moon Inc. in Hong Kong and partnered in the acquisition of BitPlanet in South Korea, with the goal of scaling Bitcoin treasury models. These strategic moves aim to create a cohesive regional network that mirrors and expands upon the U.S.-based strategies pioneered by companies like MicroStrategy. The new $1 billion fund represents a major step in institutionalizing this approach.
The announcement has broader implications for Bitcoin’s role in global treasury strategies. As institutional investors across Asia increasingly view Bitcoin as a legitimate reserve asset, Sora Ventures’ initiative could accelerate the normalization of digital assets within corporate balance sheets. This is particularly notable in the context of regulatory developments in the region. While some markets, such as Hong Kong, have shown hesitation toward crypto treasuries, others, like Japan and South Korea, have demonstrated regulatory and market-level support. Sora Ventures’ move may help bridge this fragmentation by providing a unified institutional framework for Bitcoin treasury adoption in Asia.
The fund’s strategy also highlights the evolving dynamics of institutional investment in digital assets. By pooling resources and targeting large-scale Bitcoin acquisitions, Sora Ventures aims to drive further demand and reduce price volatility through long-term, stable capital inflows. The firm’s approach aligns with the broader trend of institutional players leveraging Bitcoin as a hedge against macroeconomic uncertainties and a store of value. As the fund scales, it could serve as a blueprint for other institutional investors looking to allocate capital to digital assets in a structured and coordinated manner.
