Why I'd wait for a 30% pullback in TeraWulf
The debate around this trade is real. Bulls see a chance to own AI infrastructure through a crypto-native vehicle. Bears see another miner pump, and with WULFWULF-- up nearly 242% in the past year, skeptics have plenty of evidence to argue the easiest gains already happened earlier this year. I understand that view. Still, I would rather buy weakness than chase a vertical move.
A cleaner entry would be a roughly 30% pullback. That kind of drawdown could happen because WULF is still tied to crypto sentiment. Last week, bitcoinBTC-- briefly broke below $60,000, more than 300,000 traders were liquidated, roughly $1.6 billion in leveraged positions was wiped out, and spot bitcoin ETFs saw 13 straight sessions of outflows. When that kind of stress spills into mining stocks, it can create a better entry for investors willing to wait.
What makes the setup interesting is that this is not just a vague AI roadmap. TeraWulfWULF-- has a 20-year agreement with Anthropic for roughly 401 megawatts of AI computing capacity and about $19 billion of contracted revenue, with first facilities scheduled to begin operating in late 2027. That gives the story more substance than most miner-to-AI pivots.
So the plan is simple: do not buy every rip. Wait for a washout driven by bitcoin fear, and consider WULF more attractive if that sentiment shock creates a 30% drawdown.
Why the miner-to-AI pivot matters
Bitcoin mining is still a cyclical business
Bitcoin mining revenue still moves with Bitcoin prices, competition from other miners, and electricity costs. That keeps the old miner narrative tied to crypto mood swings. Even after the AI rerating, bitcoin has remained volatile, with Bitcoin briefly broke below $60,000 and 13 straight sessions of spot ETF outflows. For investors who want less exposure to that roller coaster, the appeal of the pivot is obvious.
The economic case for HPC and AI data centers is clearer
The broader story is that HPC and AI use cases can be more lucrative per unit of power than bitcoin mining. One analyst discussion cited in the evidence put the economics at roughly $1.9 million of commutal cash flow over five years for bitcoin versus about $7.9 million for AI/HPC per megawatt. That helps explain why the market is reweighting miners that can actually transition into power-backed infrastructure plays.
That transition is not automatic. AI data centers still require reliable power, advanced cooling, fast networking, and financing. But miners that already control land, grid interconnections, substations, electrical systems, and cooling equipment may be able to move faster than developers starting from scratch.
TeraWulf's edge is the scale of named AI demand
WULF can participate in the same AI landlord narrative as its peers, but its clearest differentiator is the size and duration of its named demand. In a sector full of announcements, that is one of the strongest demand signals available.
How TeraWulf compares with other miners
The peer group is not empty hype. Miners are attractive because they often already have large buildings with scalable grid-connected electrical power, and some deals are structured as triple-net or take-or-pay leases. Hut 8 and Core Scientific are also moving in this direction.
Still, TeraWulf looks stronger on one important measure: contracted demand tied to a major AI customer. For investors who want proof of execution rather than just a pivot narrative, that distinction matters.
What could still derail the trade
The bull case is not risk-free. Recent miner weakness reflected concerns about capex requirements and whether companies in the miner-to-AI space may need to raise additional capital at higher costs, as well as broader concerns around circular financing. Those are real risks for TeraWulf as well.
If financing gets messy, if construction slips, or if bitcoin-linked sentiment keeps punishing the whole group before the AI buildout converts into operating cash flow, the stock could stay volatile even if the long-term story improves.
That is why my approach is selective: I would be more interested in WULF on a sharp pullback rather than chasing it after a momentum spike. If management keeps execution tight, the Anthropic-backed pipeline gives the company a stronger base case than a traditional bitcoin mining story. If timing, funding, or narrative risks take over, that would argue for stepping aside.
