Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed the Education Department to count vacant teacher positions in government schools for the Teachers Recruitment Test 4 (TRE-4) to speed up recruitment. Kumar emphasized that the 35% reservation for women will be given only to women domiciled in Bihar. The state cabinet had made domicile mandatory for accessing the reservation in July 2025. Over 80,000 teachers are set to be appointed in the fourth phase of TRE before the assembly election.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed the Education Department to expedite the process of identifying vacant teacher positions in government schools for the upcoming Teachers Recruitment Test 4 (TRE-4). This move aims to speed up recruitment and fill vacancies before the state's assembly elections later this year. Kumar emphasized that a 35% reservation for women will be given only to women domiciled in Bihar, as per the state cabinet's decision in July 2025.
The state government has been actively working towards job creation, particularly in the education sector, to address unemployment and large-scale vacancies. In the previous phases of TRE, over 1.70 lakh and 70,000 teachers were appointed, while in TRE-3, 66,603 out of 87,774 vacancies were filled. The upcoming TRE-4 is expected to provide opportunities to over 1.20 lakh teacher aspirants, with the notification for the exam expected soon.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will conduct the test for primary, middle, secondary, and senior secondary teachers in schools. The recruitment process for TRE-4 is expected to be completed before the model code of conduct comes into force in the state, which means it will be held within the next one and a half months.
The Nitish government has recruited over 2.5 lakh teachers so far, while another 2.5 lakh fixed-pay teachers have also become government employees. Additionally, headmasters have been appointed to fulfill the government's promise of job creation. The reservation for women in TRE-4 will be based on domicile, with the legal opinion on extending the reservation to male aspirants from Bihar still pending.
The state has also been working on expanding skill development programs for self-employment opportunities, with a target to provide one crore jobs to youths over the next five years. The Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University will be established to boost skill development and self-employment opportunities [1].
