Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL uses a Dedicated Log Volume (DLV) feature to improve performance by separating log and data writes into larger chunks, reducing IOPS requirements and increasing throughput and IO efficiency. This post guides users through benchmarking the performance of Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL with DLV using the PostgreSQL benchmarking tool pgbench. The results show that DLV can improve performance by up to 2.6 times compared to not using DLV.
