Bed Bath & Beyond is making a return to the retail landscape with its first brick-and-mortar revival, opening under the slightly modified name "Bed Bath & Beyond Home." The inaugural store is set to open its doors in Nashville, Tennessee, marking the brand's reentry into physical retailing after filing for bankruptcy in April 2023. Collective, formerly known as Kirkland's, Inc., and Beyond Inc., Bed Bath & Beyond’s parent company.This move aims to reintroduce the iconic chain, renowned for its diverse array of home goods, models, and loyalty, into the market. Amy Sullivan, CEO of The Brand House Collective, expressed her enthusiasm, emphasizing that this store opening symbolizes a fresh chapter and a reimagined shopping experience tailored to the contemporary needs of families.
To commemorate the grand opening of the Nashville location, the company is encouraging shoppers to bring in legacy Bed Bath & Beyond coupons, promising to honor previously issued coupons—a nod to the brand’s enduring customer goodwill. Additionally, the first 25 customers making a purchase at the new store will receive The Beyond Bed, a premium memory foam mattress valued at $226.99 as part of special opening-day promotions.
Before its brick-and-mortar comeback, Bed Bath & Beyond had shifted its focus to online sales, facilitated by Overstock.com's acquisition of its intellectual property for $21.5 million in June 2023. Overstock subsequently integrated Bed Bath & Beyond’s name into its digital operations. However, in response to evolving business dynamics, the brand pivoted once more, entering a strategic collaboration with The Container Store late in 2024 to further distribute its products and expand market presence, supported by a $40 million investment from Beyond Inc.
With this renewed foray into physical retail, The Brand House Collective aims to transform former Kirkland's locations into new Bed Bath & Beyond Home stores, signaling extensive growth plans. The pilot location in Nashville will serve as a testing ground for a broader rollout, as plans are underway to expand into additional markets. As part of this strategic expansion, Sullivan assured that while the brand’s core appeal is upheld, new initiatives are directed towards optimizing the store's operations and reinforcing inventory efficiency to enhance overall performance.
Kirkland's, which rebranded to The Brand House Collective, embodies a transformational phase, striving to lead both merchandising and retail operations in partnership with Beyond Inc. The rebranding has been marked as a significant milestone, intended to align corporate identity with long-term business objectives, underscoring the commitment to provide greater value, style, and options for customers' home needs.
Refundability of former Bed Bath & Beyond gift cards, however, remains an issue, as the company does not have access to the past gift card program due to the change in ownership. Despite this, the brand is making efforts to accommodate those affected by issuing small gifts to customers holding onto old gift cards when they visit the redesigned stores.
