PJM Interconnection has ordered emergency power curtailments in the Baltimore area after a substation failure forced a large coal-fired power plant to shut down. The substation serves two Talen Energy Corp. power plants, and repairs are underway to restore service. In the meantime, Exelon's Baltimore Gas & Electric has asked customers to conserve energy. The outage affects over 65 million people in the 13-state eastern US grid.
Talen Energy Corporation (TLN) reported its second quarter 2025 financial results, with a GAAP net income of $72 million, an adjusted EBITDA of $90 million, and an adjusted free cash flow use of $(78) million. The company attributed the free cash flow deficit to an extended refueling outage at the Susquehanna plant [1]. Talen Energy reaffirmed its 2025 guidance and expanded its partnership with Amazon Web Services, committing to provide up to 1.9 gigawatts of power for AWS [1]. Additionally, Talen Energy signed definitive agreements to acquire the Freedom Energy Center in Pennsylvania and the Guernsey Power Station in Ohio, both gas-fired plants [1]. The company cleared 6,702 megawatts in the recent PJM Base Residual Auction, projecting significant capacity revenues for the upcoming capacity year [1].
