The FCmove-SC offers several key enhancements over its predecessors. It delivers a 30% increase in system power at end-of-life, along with improved durability and operating temperatures. Additionally, the module features a 25% increase in volumetric power density, achieved through integrated DC/DC packaging. This design consolidates functionality into a smaller, more serviceable package, reducing external interfaces and parts, thereby simplifying powertrain integration and minimizing diagnostics and preventive maintenance requirements [1].
Ballard is also upgrading its fleet services to pair the FCmove-SC with predictive maintenance and analytics. Onboard communications and the FCServiceCloud Customer Insight portal enable preventive and predictive maintenance workflows, helping operators maximize uptime and lower lifecycle support costs [1].
Safety is a central focus in the FCmove-SC architecture. The PEM stack enclosure incorporates a new internal geometry that inhibits hydrogen-related risks, reducing the need for conventional active safety features such as sensors and software controls [1].
The new FCmove-SC draws on Ballard's extensive on-road experience. With over 850 vehicles deployed across European cities and nearly a hundred million service kilometers, Ballard's FCmove -HD module has informed the design, architecture, and component subsystems of the FCmove-SC, resulting in lower total cost of ownership for transit operators [1].
Ballard Power Systems' stock rose nearly 3% premarket following the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the company's advancements and its push toward diesel parity [2].
