Axie Infinity Unveils Atia’s Legacy MMO Game Amid Positive NFT Outlook

On November 25, Sky Mavis, the developer behind Axie Infinity, announced its plans to release a new game set in the Axie universe. This announcement coincided with company layoffs, which freed up resources for several projects slated for 2025. Sky Mavis co-founder and CEO Trung Nguyen revealed that one of these projects was a new Axie game. The trailer for Atia’s Legacy, released on March 6, showcased significant improvements over the initial iteration of Axie Infinity, including 3D combat, mini-games like puzzle-solving and fishing, and a farming simulator. The game aims to empower players with true asset ownership, a core principle of the Axie Infinity ecosystem.
Sky Mavis has invested seven years of experience in building and powering Web3 games into the development of Atia’s Legacy. The company plans to open play-tests for users to experience the game in 2025, although a specific timeline for the game's release has not been provided. To attract players, Sky Mavis has launched a referral program where users who successfully refer friends to play will receive the game’s native tokens, Axie Infinity (AXS), as a reward. The more gamers onboarded, the more tokens will be unlocked for successful referrals.
The new game is expected to feature squad-based combat, unified progression, player-versus-environment interactions, resource and crafting systems, and social interactions. These elements are designed to create a dynamic and engaging gaming experience that leverages the benefits of blockchain technology. The positive outlook for NFTs is driven by the growing acceptance of digital assets as a legitimate form of investment and the increasing integration of NFTs into mainstream applications.
