Mangalore, Karnataka: The automated driving test track in Mudipu was inaugurated by Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Sunday. Built at a cost of ₹7.39 crore, the track will facilitate driving licence testing for two-wheelers, cars, and heavy vehicles by the Mangaluru and Bantwal Regional Transport offices.

The track, situated on KIADB land in Phajir, features two tracks for two-wheelers and one each for light motor vehicles and heavy vehicles. Applicants will be evaluated on their aptitude and driving skills through various tracks, including 'S' tracks, gradient tracks, and three-point turn tracks. For heavy vehicles, applicants will also perform reverse parking.

The test process involves online time slot booking for each applicant, with a card system to activate timers. Sensors placed along the track will automatically disqualify applicants if they touch the sensors or fail to complete the test within the prescribed time.

Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that Karnataka aims to have at least one automated driving test track in every district, with 42 tracks planned by the end of the year. This initiative makes Karnataka the only state in India with such a comprehensive network of automated driving test tracks.
