Audius, a crypto-powered music streaming service, has launched a season of airdrops and rewards to celebrate surpassing 250 million on-chain song streams. The campaign, valued at over $3 million, will see 30 million AUDIO tokens distributed to users, with the first phase focusing on contributing artists.
The "Artist Appreciation Airdrop" is the first of the season, with 2 million AUDIO tokens being distributed to 1,174 eligible artists based on factors such as streams, sales, revenue, and followers. CEO Roneil Rumburg stated, "Artists have always been the motivation behind everything we do at Audius. With over 250 million on-chain streams now under our belt, we see it as a huge indicator that the market readiness for payments and rewards have finally arrived."
Throughout its history, Audius has streamed music from prominent artists like Skrillex, Deadmau5, and Disclosure. Last September, the platform rolled out its new "artist monetization program," allowing artists to set their own terms and pricing for premium tracks, with 10% of each payment allocated to the community treasury.
The airdrop campaign is the second in Audius' history, following the first one in 2020 when the project hit mainnet. The company plans to carry out further weekly airdrops, including challenges for the entire ecosystem to participate in. Over the course of Season 1, which is expected to take a few months, 30 million AUDIO tokens will be distributed, representing 3% of its 1.5 billion token supply. The project is considering a second season of rewards, but this has yet to be confirmed.
