ASML Sees 8%-14% 5-Year Growth on AI Demand-But 2026 Is the Make-or-Break Test

AI demand is driving ASML's upgraded outlook
ASML's latest guidance reinforces the core bull case: AI demand is already affecting equipment demand today. The company now expects 2026 sales of €43 billion to €45 billion, up from its earlier full-year view, and management tied that outlook to ongoing AI-related spending on advanced Logic and Memory capacity. The question is no longer whether AI is shaping demand at ASML; it is whether that demand can keep growing fast enough to support the stock's premium valuation.
The market debate is about pricing, not proof
Bulls focus on ASML's strategic position in the AI buildout. The company holds a near-monopoly on EUV lithography, and management has said orders extend into 2028. Bears argue that much of that advantage is already reflected in the share price: ASMLASML-- shares have risen sharply this year, and the company's market value has approached $700 billion. So the real test is whether AI-related demand can keep translating into steady revenue, shipments, and margins.
That is why ASML's long-range view matters. The company now expects 8% to 14% sales growth a year over the next five years. That keeps the long-term case intact, but it also raises the bar for execution over the next few quarters.
The operating logic behind the bullish case
The bullish case rests on a straightforward cycle: AI chip demand pushes customers to expand capacity, and that capacity expansion drives orders for lithography equipment. Management has said customers are accelerating their capacity expansion plans for 2026 and beyond, while ASML is also expanding production of its advanced EUV machines to support that order base.
Recent results show the demand pipeline is active
ASML's latest quarter supports that read-through. The company reported Q2 total net sales of €9.3 billion and net income of €2.9 billion, both above guidance. New lithography systems sold rose to 86 from 67 in the first quarter, and management also pointed to stronger third-quarter sales of €11.0 billion to €12.0 billion. The key signpost for investors is whether order strength continues to convert into deliveries and profitability.

The long-range targets show why that conversion matters. ASML still sees 2030 revenue between €44 billion and €60 billion with gross margin of 56% to 60%. If customers keep building AI compute capacity, ASML should have repeated exposure to advanced systems and installed-base revenue over time.
China, timing, and execution still matter
A strong five-year outlook does not remove near-term risk. Even with orders extending into 2028, ASML can still face a difficult stock path if part of the business weakens faster than AI demand can offset it.
The main near-term pressure points
- China exposure: ASML has said it expected China sales to fall to 20% of total sales after more than 40% over the previous six quarters. That lowers the revenue base in one market, even as AI demand remains strong elsewhere.
- Non-AI timing risk: Last fall, customers including Intel and Samsung delayed orders for equipment amid weakness in chip markets other than AI. That leaves room for a rougher short-term path if non-AI demand stays soft.
- High expectations: ASML still guides to 8% to 14% sales growth a year over the next five years, but that does not make the path smooth. A weak quarter, tighter China exposure, or slower shipments could still pressure sentiment.
What investors should watch next
The core question is whether ASML can keep converting its longer-term demand visibility into consistent execution through the rest of 2026. The five-year framework is already in place; the next few quarters matter because they determine whether the bottleneck story continues to show up in orders, shipments, and profits.
