"Arbitrum Unveils BoLD: Revolutionizing Layer 2 Security"
Offchain Labs, the developer behind Arbitrum, has announced the launch of the BoLD protocol for "Permissionless Validation" on both the Arbitrum One and Nova chains. This new system replaces the previously whitelisted validators with a permissionless mechanism, opening up participation in network security to anyone interested. The BoLD protocol enables "permissionless validation" on the Layer 2 ecosystem chain, enhancing network decentralization and security.
The BoLD protocol modernizes the anti-fraud system used in Optimistic Rollups by introducing an interactive, time-bound dispute resolution mechanism. This ensures that disputes on the two Arbitrum ecosystem chains will be resolved within approximately 12 days. Offchain Labs stated that validation on Optimistic Rollups has been complex for years, and even with fraud proofs, the theoretical chain remains vulnerable to denial-of-service attacks. The BoLD protocol addresses these issues by providing a more efficient and secure dispute resolution process.
The launch of the BoLD protocol is a significant step towards enhancing the security and decentralization of the Arbitrum ecosystem. By opening up participation in network security to a broader range of individuals, Offchain Labs aims to create a more robust and resilient network. This move aligns with the broader trend in the blockchain industry towards increased decentralization and community involvement.
